Material Sourcing Manager (M/F)

In this role, you will be responsible for the sourcing strategy and component purchasing process for the production of Salewa branded footwear manufactured in Romania at the Oberalp Group's own production facility. The objective is to ensure that cost, quality and delivery time targets for materials required for production are met. 
The responsibilities and activities of the role extend to all components of the bill of materials, the management of the purchasing budget and the planning of supplier capacities through purchasing plans.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Searching, selecting and rating suppliers (vendor scouting and rating), in compliance with the guidelines defined by the FTW & TE Operation Director, providing for the certification of the chosen supplier, analysis of the technical and industrialisation capabilities of new products, evaluation of production capacities and critical resources, product cost, delivery reliability, and the quality index of supplies
  • Researching new indirect materials, components and technologies according to R&D and product management inputs;
  • Reallocate projects to different suppliers and initiate new production sources where necessary (external production lines);
  • Manage the most critical sub-suppliers where required (e.g. midsole/outsole for EU production) from the development/pricing/production plans point of view
  • Set up a sourcing strategy consistents with a "make or buy" policy
  • Manage raw material quality claims with material suppliers and evaluate solutions to solve quality problems.
  • Support in defining production plans in compliance with suppliers' commercial needs and production capacity;
  • Managing MOQs (minimal order quantities) with suppliers through forecasts and their updates, material substitution during product development, etc.
  • Guaranteeing delivery of direct and indirect materials in line with the production plan
  • Research solutions aligned to cost targets defined by R&D and product management and prepare cost estimates;
  • Negotiate with suppliers aspects such as: finished product and component purchase prices, quantities, quality, delivery times, penalties, investments;
  • Manage supplier price lists and standard costs and negotiate contractual terms for new factory suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the R&D and Industrialisation department to ensure that new projects are developed according to the company's industrialisation parameters;
  • Collaborate in drawing up industrialisation schedules for new projects;



  • Experience in similar role gained in a large, international, matrixed organization, operating preferably in outdoor industry
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Good level of commercial, relational and negotiation skills
  • Very good English and Italian skills
  • Willingness to travel
